Between local road construction near Greensboro and Eatonton, repaving work along I-20, and major projects around I-285 in Atlanta, airport timing is not something to leave to chance. Closer to Atlanta, the I-285/I-20 West Interchange project is a major multi-year construction project. GDOT says the project will reconstruct the I-285/I-20 West Interchange and add lanes along I-285 and I-20 in Fulton and Cobb counties, with anticipated substantial completion in 2030.

That west-side interchange work can affect airport trips because Lake Oconee travelers often approach Atlanta on I-20 before connecting to I-285, downtown connectors, or alternate airport routes depending on live traffic.
